I don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions.

I think that if you want to make changes in your life, then you shouldn’t wait for a new year to do it.

I’m a firm believer in embracing change, it’s good for the soul and there’s nothing worse than sitting in a crappy situation ‘just because.’

Whenever you feel the urge for a change you should go for it.

The start of a new year can be challenging enough without throwing out into the ether your intended goals that will likely only last a few weeks if you’re lucky. January is a terrible month in my eyes, one that I just need to get my head down and try and survive as unscathed as possible.

The start of this year was going along quite nicely until yesterday. I hit a pothole that resulted in my car sounding like the exhaust had exploded. I pulled over and after a diagnosis of knowing bugger all about cars, I called out the RAC who came to take a look.

After a quick once over they determined that yes, my exhaust had snapped and would need to either get fixed or replaced. They assured me that it was quite secure though and safe to drive I would just sound like a noisy boy racer the whole journey.

So off I drove home sounding absolutely horrendous with my kids complaining about the noise for the entire journey.

What with it being January, the month of doom, I shouldn’t have chanced it but fool that I am,  I took the old girl out again but this time the damn exhaust fell off.

Well not completely off, half still connected, the other dragging along the road.

Again after another diagnosis of knowing bugger all about cars or half-dangling exhausts, I knew I’d need some help!

Luckily my friends came to my rescue and a few cable ties later and I was on my way. Rest assured I won’t be driving it again until I drive it to my garage!

Not the best of starts to 2024…

New Year resolutions for me are a lot like my exhaust, I have the best of intentions but no matter how hard I try they keep falling off and dragging me down, which is one of the main reasons I don’t make them.

Life is hard enough without adding into the mix another ‘to-do’ on my list. No one likes to feel like they’ve failed before they’ve even begun, do they?

So this year will be much the same as last year, I will bumble along, jumping the many hurdles that my life seems to throw at me, and just hope like hell that I keep clearing them enough to not inflict too much damage.

Happy New Year!!
